Transmission Control Protocol (TCP)

Description: OpenSS7 Product Status Transport TCP

Note that it is now possible to select from most of these categories off of the "Related" sidebar menu.

Overview:-

The Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) Transport Provider Interface (TPI) access component is an implementation of a STREAMS driver which provides TPI access to the native Linux NET4 TCP implementation.

TCP is a fundamental component of some Signalling Transport (SIGTRAN) adaptation layers such as Tekelec'c Adaptation Layer Interface (TALI).

History:-

Work on the TCP transport component began in January 2001.

Status:-

The STREAMS TPI interface to the native Linux NET4 TCP is in the Maintenance stage.

Dependencies:-

The current STREAMS inet interface release depends on a Linux 2.4.x kernel and a currnet LiS (e.g. 2.16.16). This INET interface package is an integral component of the current LiS releases and need not be downloaded separately.

Design:-

Designs for the TCP components can be viewed here.

Documentation:-

Documentation for the TCP TPI component is available here. The TCP TPI man page is available here: tpi_tcp(7).

Test Results:-

Test programs and test results have been publicly released and are part of the public release package.

References:-

A reference list for the TCP components can be viewed here.

Code:-

Code for the Transport Provider Interface (TPI) to Linux NET4 TCP has been publicly released. The code for this component can be viewed here.

Maintenance and feature enhancement updates are normally publicly released as soon as they become available. Current updates are also incorporated into Linux Fast-STREAMS releases.

Release Package:-

A number of packages have been released:

Following are releases of the strinet package. The package release is available in a number of forms. For more information on the specific form, see the linked page in the table, below.

Click on the ``Release Version'' item for the release in the following table to obtain detailed listing of the tarballs, source RPMs and binary RPMs available for download.
